[ Though it's been weeks, months, everything still hurts. Bones, joints, tendons- the whole shebang. He should be grateful just to be alive, he is grateful to be alive, but god damn, when does the suffering end? It's bad enough that he has to be carted miles away from Hawkins to finish school. Hawkins is still in its rebuilding phase, and while things are slowly getting back to normal, the powers that be have decided its better for all of them to finish out school at the next town over.
Eddie knows that there's nothing he has any right to complain about. The fact that he's alive is a miracle with the beating he took in the upside down. More than ever he just feels that he's been burning at both ends, the physical and emotional eroding away in equal strokes. He should have died there, almost did die there, and yet he's still here, pain and all. He still doesn't fully understand the why's or how's of the FBI clearing his name, releasing him from any satanic wrong doing. While it gets the police off his back, it doesn't stop the stares any time he dares show himself in public. The court of public opinion is not so easily swayed.
Ultimately, it's fine by him. He's used to being an outsider, and he's already decided that once he's got his diploma in hand, he's getting as far away from Hawkins as he can manage. Even if that means being away from the Hellfire Club, away from Dustin, away from... Steve. That last thought gives him pause, makes him wonder why the thought bothers him at all.
But it does.
He's only a handful of weeks away from graduation, and he really is going to do it this time. After that, he's out of here. And for reasons he chooses not to think about, he wants to let Steve know. Those unnamable reasons are what brings him to Steve's house in the middle of the night. His stomach twists and turns, creating a sickening tightness that almost rivals his physical pain. He'll just say his peace and be gone. Not big deal. Totally.
Eddie considers the front door, before deciding to stalk the house's perimeter, finally settling on the window that he's pretty sure is Steve's. He picks up a handful of gravel, and hurls a few pebbles, hoping he's chosen correctly. This definitely isn't corny. Not at all. ]
